Charlotte "Charli" Rae Anderson was born on May 12, 2017 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris to
Bring bicycles and helmets to the City of Hancock and Hancock Police Department's Bike Rodeo at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14. The rodeo will be at the community center. Free bike tune-ups and safety checks will be offered. Participants can learn about helmet safety from Mike Heikes of Helmets for Kids, learn new skills and bike through an obstacle course. Free hot dogs and chips will also be served.
Stevens County will be looking for an information technology support specialist for the second time in several months as Craig Waldvogel has resigned effective June 5. Waldvogel started with the county on March 1. County coordinator Becky Young said Waldvogel resigned to take a department head position with a different entity. The county board of commissioners accepted the resignation and authorized Young to advertise for a IT technician position.
Local flavors was June 7 in Morris outside the Morris Public Library. Participants could hear live music, paint or do other artist activities. Local vendors also had homemade goods available. The event was held in conjunction with the rural arts and culture summit at the University of Minnesota Morris.
The donuts look good but even they can't tempt the workers away from their tasks until it's time for a break. These workers are among a steady group of volunteers from the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary posts in Morris that have been making quilts, laundry bags and tote bags for veterans for at least 30 years. "We lose members and new ones come in," said Helen Kill, auxiliary member and chairwoman of the Legion Auxliary's veterans service committee. The volunteers feel almost duty-bound to continue the tradition.
The Stevens County Highway office will be closed Fridays through Labor Day.
The pavers that will be laid for an outdoor patio in Pomme de Terre Park in Morris could help pave the way for a better future for youth in Stevens County and the county as a whole, supporters of Raising Up Stevens County Kinship or RUSC Kinship, a mentoring program in the county. "What a (great) way for kids to know the community cares about them," RUSC Kinship board member Jeanne Ennen said during a groundbreaking ceremony for an outdoor patio that will be built with paving stones at the park.
Three Summer Solstice events in Morris will celebrate what we see, hear, feel and know about the prairie and life in western Minnesota. The Stevens County Historical Society and Stevens County Master Gardeners have partnered for the Summer Solstice weekend event on June 22, 24 and 25. Master gardener Randee Hokanson called it a full sensory experience.
The Morris Kiwanis talent show returns for Prairie Pioneer Days at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14 at East Side Park. Auditions must be submitted by June 29. Finalists will be announced July 1. There will be no live preliminary rounds in the park. There are three ways to enter the contest. Entrants can email a video audition of five minutes or less to email@example.com . Include a name, phone number and address.
