ORLANDO, Fla. -- Patrick Mahomes led two scoring drives and earned Offensive MVP honors and the AFC recorded three interceptions while registering a 26-7 victory over the NFC on Sunday, Jan. 27, in the rain-soaked Pro Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
LOS ANGELES — Karl-Anthony Towns scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Thursday, Jan. 24, and Andrew Wiggins added 23 points as the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves continued to find their stride under interim head coach Ryan Saunders with a 120-105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Jerryd Bayless added 16 points and eight assists off the bench as the Timberwolves won their third consecutive game and improved to 5-3 under Saunders, who took over after Tom Thibodeau was fired on Jan. 6. The Wolves also improved to 7-3 in their past 10 games.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Quarterback Tom Brady led New England to a Super Bowl for the ninth time Sunday, Jan. 20, passing for 348 yards and a touchdown as the visiting Patriots scored a touchdown with the first overtime possession and nipped the Kansas City Chiefs 37-31. New England advances to play the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII after the Rams survived an overtime thriller against the New Orleans Saints earlier Sunday for the NFC crown.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Derrick Rose buried a 20-foot, tie-breaking jumper with nine-tenths of a second remaining Sunday night, Jan, 20, delivering the Minnesota Timberwolves a 116-114 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the first half of a home-and-home sequence in Minneapolis. The clubs will meet again Tuesday in Phoenix. The Timberwolves trailed 110-106 before Rose capped a 31-point performance by scoring eight of Minnesota's final 10 points over the closing 3:25.
NEW ORLEANS -- After forcing overtime with a 48-yard field goal with 15 seconds left in regulation, Greg Zuerlein nailed a 57-yard field goal 4:17 into overtime to lift the visiting Los Angeles Rams to a controversial 26-23 victory over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 20, and a berth in Super Bowl LIII.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Dupree McBrayer hit the game-winning free throw with 2.7 seconds left Saturday, Jan. 19, in Minneapolis to give Minnesota a 65-64 win over Penn State and leave the Nittany Lions as the only winless team in the Big 10. Penn State (7-12, 0-8 Big Ten) had a chance to win by inbound the ball on Minnesota's side of the court with 2.3 seconds left, but a jumper from the wing by junior Lamar Stevens bounced off the heel of the rim as time expired. Senior Jordan Murphy had 19 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Golden Gophers.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Ayo Dosunmu scored 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting, and Illinois cruised to a 95-68 win over Minnesota on Wednesday night, Jan. 16. Illinois (5-12, 1-5 Big Ten) snapped a five-game losing streak and celebrated a victory for the first time since Dec. 15 against East Tennessee State. The Fighting Illini posted their first Big Ten win since Feb. 25 at Rutgers. Daniel Oturu led the Golden Gophers with 17 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort. Minnesota (13-4, 3-3) has dropped two of its past three games after opening the season with a 12-2 record.
ST. PAUL -- Jason Zucker scored a shootout goal and the Minnesota Wild ended a two-game losing streak Tuesday, Jan. 15, with a 3-2 victory that completed a season sweep over the visiting Los Angeles Kings. The Kings missed all three of their shots in the shootout, with Wild goaltender Alex Stalock saving two of them, while Los Angeles' Anze Kopitar hit the post on his attempt. Stalock sealed the victory with a save on a Dustin Brown wrist shot.
PHILADELPHIA -- Joel Embiid scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lift the host Philadelphia 76ers to an easy victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves 149-107 on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Embiid recorded his league-leading 37th double-double. In addition, Embiid posted his league-best 30th game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Jeff Teague's return from an ankle injury boosted the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 120-103 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday night, Jan. 4. Teague was back in the starting lineup after a nine-game absence, and he had 23 points and 10 assists in 28 minutes. Karl-Anthony Towns added 29 points and 15 rebounds for Minnesota. Towns is averaging 28.3 points and 16.8 rebounds over his past six games. The Timberwolves are 5-9 in their past 14 games but have now won four of their past seven.
