Tiger baseball adds three wins, including one on senior night

The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta baseball team recognized the team’s nine seniors on the roster prior to the West Central Conference game against Benson on Thursday, May 19, at Chizek Field in Morris. The seniors include: Durgin Decker, Brett Hansen, Brenden Hardy, Brandon Jergenson, Dylan Rose, Noah Erickson, Ross Marty, Sam Kleinwolterink and Toby Gonnerman.

The Tigers went 3-0 last week, beating Melrose, Minnewaska and Benson to improve to 14-3 on the year. MACA ended the week against New London-Spicer Friday, May 20 and will close out the regular season this week against Melrose and West Central Area.

Morris/C-A 5

Melrose 3

MACA snatched the lead late in the game in a 5-3 victory over Melrose on Monday, May 16, at Chizek Field in Morris. The game was tied at three with the Tigers batting in the bottom of the sixth when a run scored on an error.

MACA earned the victory despite allowing Melrose three runs in the first inning. The Melrose offense was led by RBI singles from Hunter Goihl, Connor Anderson, and Isaac Rosenberger.

Morris/C-A was able to tie the game in the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Kaleb Breuer and two errors.

The Tigers broke the tie in the sixth on a fielding error and added an insurance run on a ground out by Durgin Decker, which scored Riley Asmus.

Brandon Jergenson took the win for MACA. The senior surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Devin Orbeck took the loss for Melrose. The hurler lasted six innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out four.

Breuer led MACA with two hits in three at bats.

Orbeck went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Melrose in hits.

Morris/C-A 6

Minnewaska 5

MACA nabbed the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Minnewaska on Tuesday, May 17, at Chizek Field in Morris.

Minnewaska held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning when MACA took its first lead of the game with two runs thanks to an error and a Durgin Decker RBI single.

Minnewaska scored three runs on two hits to regain the lead in the fifth inning. Torii Johnson hit a RBI single to knot the game at 2-2 then Dylan Alexander followed with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the frame, Morris/C-A got the lead back on an error, a Kaleb Breuer RBI single and a Sam Kleinwolterink RBI double.

In the top of the seventh inning, Minnewaska got one back but couldn’t get any closer, falling 6-5.

Brett Hansen earned the victory on the hill for MACA. The righty went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out three. Drew Huebner threw two innings in relief and recorded the last six outs, four via strikeout.

Jacob Blair took the loss for Minnewaska. The hurler went six innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out three.

Brandon Jergenson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead MACA in hits.

Minnewaska collected 10 hits on the day. Jack Larson, Johnson, Alexander, and Blair each collected multiple hits for Minnewaska.

Morris/C-A 5

Benson 2

MACA ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-2 victory over Benson on Thursday, May 19, on senior night at Chizek Field in Morris. The game was tied at two with MACA batting in the bottom of the fifth when Ross Marty doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Benson opened up scoring in the first inning, when AJ Klassen drew a bases loaded walk.

Drew Huebner was the winning pitcher for MACA. The righty went two innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five. Dylan Rose threw one inning in relief.

Drew Storck started the game for MACA. The junior went four innings, gave up an earned run on one hit, walked three and struck out nine.

Hunter Gibson, Rose, Marty, Brett Hansen, Brandon Jergenson, Kaleb Breuer, and Trevor Buss each had one hit in the game.

Issac Minchow went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Benson at the plate
