Maddie Carrington and Hailey Gill were each named UMAC Performers of the Week on Monday.
ST. PAUL, Minn.– The University of Minnesota Morris women’s track & field team swept the weekly UMAC awards on Monday. SophomoreMaddie Carringtonwas the UMAC Track Performer of the Week, while juniorHailey Gillrepeated as the UMAC Field Performer of the Week.
Carrington debuted for the Cougars on Saturday at CSB/SJU Triangular and made an instant impact by setting a meet record in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:26.26. That time is best in the UMAC by more than eight seconds and ranks as the third-best time in UMN Morris program history.
In the throwing events, Gill claimed victories in both the shot put and weight throw on Saturday. Gill was the winner by over a foot in the shot put with a distance of 38-2.75 (11.65 meters). She added a narrow victory in the weight throw with an effort of 48-10.75 (14.90 meters).
The 21 combined points from Carrington and Gill helped Minnesota Morris compile 64 points on the afternoon and hold off Macalester College to finish in second place at the meet.
The Cougars are back in action on Feb. 5 at Bethel University with the Gene Glader Classic beginning at 10 a.m.
