Women’s Track & Field Places Sixth at SJU/CSB Invitational

Jenica Moes turned in the top finish by a Cougar by winning the javelin throw on Saturday.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women’s track & field team finished in sixth place at the SJU/CSB Invitational on Saturday. The Cougars finished the day with 45 points as a team.

The majority of the points for Minnesota Morris on Saturday came in the field events, including an event victory for Jenica Moes. The Cougar senior was the winner of the javelin throw with a meet-record distance of 123-7 (37.67 meters). She also had the best finish for UMN Morris in the shot put as she unleashed a heave of 37-10.50 (11.54 meters) to take fourth place.

In other throwing events, Hailey Gill was fifth in the hammer with a PR of 143-5 (43.72 meters). Gill added a seventh-place showing in the discus with a throw of 116-11 (35.65 meters).

The Cougars also had success in the jumps on Saturday. In the high jump, Ellen Beckius was fourth (4-3.25, 1.30 meters) and Sheena James was fifth (4-1.25, 1.25 meters). Kim Peters took fifth place in the triple jump with an effort of 31-4.75 (9.57 meters), while Maggie Landwer was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 14-3.25 (4.35 meters).

In running events, the best finish of the day belonged to the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of Lydia Gross, Jasmine Terry, Roxann Emerson, and Olivia Salzwedel. The team put together a time of 52.57 seconds to finish in sixth place. Salzwedel was also 10th in the 100 Meter Dash (13.43 seconds) and Kaitlyn Ladwig was 12th in the 800 Meter Run (2:34.39).

Next up for Minnesota Morris is a trip to the University of Jamestown on Thursday, April 14, for the Al Cassell Open starting at 12 p.m.
