Maddie Carrington and Jenica Moes took home conference honors on Monday, marking the second time that the Cougars have swept the awards during the indoor season.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women’s track & field team made it a second clean sweep of the weekly UMAC awards on Monday as sophomoreMaddie Carringtonand seniorJenica Moeswere named UMAC Track Performer of the Week and UMAC Field Performer of the Week, respectively.
Carrington earned the honor, her second this season, by finishing second in the mile run at the UND Open on Saturday. Carrington recorded the second-best time ever by a Cougar runner in the event, turning in a 5:18.13. That time was beaten by only a runner from North Dakota State University and ranks as the top time in the UMAC so far this season.
In the throwing events, Moes had a ninth-place finish in the shot put and a 15th-place finish in the weight throw in a field at the UND Open that once again included a number of non-Division III competitors. Moes was the third-place finisher among Division III throwers in the shot put and fourth among Division III throwers in the weight. On top of that, she set a new PR in the shot put with a distance of 37-7.25 (11.46 meters).
Minnesota Morris heads to Superior, Wis. on Friday and Saturday, looking to defend last year’s title at the UMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Action on Friday begins at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday gets started at 11 a.m.
