Volleyball: Knights top Owls for third time

The West Central Area Knights swept Hancock for the third time this season in prep volleyball action Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Barrett. WCA won 25-15, 25-14, 25-10 to improve to 9-12 overall while the Owls fall to 1-17.

For the Owls, Carlee Hanson had five set assists, two blocks, a kill and an ace serve. Haley Mattson, Lexi Staples, Bailey DeSmith and Alexa Meierding all had three kills to lead the offense. Meierding also had two blocks. Greta Schaefer led the defense with nine digs.

The Owls close out the regular season at Dawson-Boyd Thursday, Oct. 11, in Dawson. Hancock is 12th in Section 6A-South standings. If all remains the same, Hancock will likely play a pigtail match at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at No. 5 Breckenridge. Breckenridge is No. 79 in QRF, which is how Section 6A is seeded. Wheaton/Herman-Norcross is sixth at No. 82, Underwood is fourth at No. 53 and Brandon-Evansville is third at No. 45. Official seedings will be announced Saturday, Oct. 20.
