Volleyball: Owls earn first win at tourney

It took 15 games but the Hancock Owl volleyball team finally can put a mark in the win column. After going 0-3 in pool play, the Owls beat Ashby 2-0 (25-20, 25-18) in bracket play for their first win of 2018 at the Bertha-Hewitt tournament Saturday, Sept. 29, in Bertha.

The Owls lost to Henning 2-0 (12-25, 12-25), West Central Area 2-0 (23-25, 9-25) and split with Swanville 1-1 (25-18, 9-25) in pool play. Henning won the tournament by beating Parkers Prairie and Bertha-Hewitt in the bracket tournament. No other stats were provided from the tournament at this time.

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Owls fell 3-0 to Wheaton/Herman-Norcross (25-16, 25-15, 25-19), in Herman. Alexa Meierding had six kills to lead the Owl offensive attack. Six others also recorded a kill in the loss. Lexi Staples and Taylor Wilson combined for 29 digs defensively.

The Owls, now 1-15, next play Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Thursday, Oct. 4, in Hancock.
