Leah Peterson, a current teacher at Hancock School District and former assistant volleyball coach for the Owls, will be the next head coach for the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tiger volleyball team, pending Morris Area School Board approval.

Peterson is listed as the head coach for the Tiger volleyball program on the list of fall coaches, directors and advisors to be approved by the Morris Area School Board at its next meeting on June 22.

"She's young, she's excited, and has a lot of energy. She was really looking forward to being a head coach and the opportunity is here (at Morris) so she decided to take it," Morris Area athletic director Mark Ekren said in a phone interview with the Stevens County Times.

This is Peterson's first head coaching job. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Morris in 2016 and has been with Hancock as a teacher and junior varsity coach ever since.

"It's going to be a learning process for her, just like anyone in their first year as a head coach," Ekren said.

Hancock School Board accepted her resignation as the Owl assistant volleyball coach at the June 15 board meeting where Principal Tim Pahl said she was taking the head coaching job at Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta.

Peterson replaces Caleb Greene, who resigned as the Tiger volleyball coach in May after one season as head coach. Greene led the Tiger volleyball team to its fifth consecutive Section 3AA finals game in 2018.
