Senior Tyler Sassenberg has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team for District Six, as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday, May 28. With his selection Tuesday, Sassenberg is eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors, which will be announced in June.

Sassenberg, a native of Winthrop, Minnesota, graduated from Minnesota Morris this past spring as a biology and psychology major. In the classroom, Sassenberg has a 3.98 GPA as of Fall 2018.

On the track for the Cougars in 2018-19, Sassenberg set the school record in the 10,000-meter run and the indoor 5,000-meter run. Along with his school records this year, he ran two outdoor UMN Morris top-10 times and one indoor UMN Morris top-10 time.

At the 2019 UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Sassenberg tallied a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter run. This past fall on the cross country course, he placed 37th at the UMAC Championships and 71st at the NCAA Central Region Championships.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a significant contributor with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games or contests. Eligible athletes must also be of sophomore status or higher to be considered. Honorees are nominated and selected by CoSIDA members for eight different districts for all three NCAA divisions.
