Two dozen season bests were set between both Hancock Owl track and field teams on Thursday, May 9, in Ortonville. Both teams finished in third place with new season high team scores. The Owl girls finished with 100 points while the boys had 95.

"We had a really good night. We had a lot of kids set (personal records)," Hancock head coach Scott Thompson said.

Hancock had seven first-place finishes on the day, including the girls 4x100-meter relay team of Jenna Kannegiesser, Cora Millette, Eva Schaefer and Tiffany Schmidgall. The foursome clocked a 57.94, which was a season best for the group.

"It's very nice for our girls team to have Tiffany Schmidgall back in the lineup. She was hurt early in the season and is finally back to 100 percent and has some races under her belt," Thompson said.

For the girls individually, Schaefer had season best long jump, topping the competition with a mark of 13-10.5. Jordan Hausmann finished first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:08.4.

For the boys, Tyler Timmerman won three events. He won the 100-meter dash, breaking 12 seconds for the first time this season for a new season best 11.9. He also improved his time in the 200-meter dash, finishing first in 24.43. The junior also won the long jump with a best mark of 18-06.5. John Kellenberger won the 300-meter hurdle event with a time of 45.94.

"John Kellenberger won the 300 hurdles and decided to turn around and run the 800 immediately to follow, he took second place and wasn’t happy with his time, but I was sure impressed that he had the guts to do it for team points and to use as a workout,” Thompson said.

The Owls next compete at Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Monday, May 13 and then again for the Pheasant Conference meet Thursday, May 16, in Wheaton.
