Tigers top Owls in Stevens County Showdown

Imagine the energy of that first Friday night lights football game in the fall, except the setting is a basketball court in the winter. That’s the type of energy both Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta and Hancock boys basketball teams brought to the Stevens County Showdown Friday, Feb. 5, in Hancock. With the gym full, or as full as it could be with COVID-19 protocols in place, Morris/C-A used two big runs to top Hancock 43-39 for the third time in the rivalry game that was revived four years ago.

“We’ve known each other since third grade and in some instances played with each other on AAU teams. We both have a respect for each other but when we step on the floor it’s a different story,” Owl senior Preston Rohloff said of the rivalry. “Losing to Morris is one of the worst feelings in the world because you know you will hear it from them for the rest of your life.”

Full story, including more photos and quotes from MACA’s Brandon Jergenson and Jackson Loge and Hancock coach Cory Bedel, in the Stevens County Times e-edition here.
