Tiger boys swim opens season with fourth-place finish

The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta boys swim and dive team opened the season at the Tom Uvaas Otter Invite on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Fergus Falls.

The Tigers were one of six teams that competed at the meet. In addition to the Tigers, other teams were Fergus Falls, Detroit Lake, Park Rapids, Perham/New York Mills and Thief River Falls. The Tigers placed fourth overall with 228 points.

Seventh-grader Willian Coler took first place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 38.06. Ninth-grader Mauricio Obregon was right behind Coler, in second place with a time of 39.51.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Sam Just, Barron Schneider, Reid Tolifson, and Matt Gomer finished fourth overall with a time of 1:51.78.

Daytona Hoberg and Paxton VanEps also had fourth place finishes. Hoberg finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.73 and VanEps clocked a 36.45 in the 50-yard butterfly.

The Tigers compete at Montevideo Tuesday, Dec. 21 to close out the 2021 portion of the season. MACA will open the 2022 season at WEst Fargo Invite Saturday, Jan. 8.
