The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta / West Central Area girls tennis team opened up the regular season with a 7-0 win against Parkers Prairie Friday, Aug. 16, in Morris.

“The girls went in with a good attitude and wanted to leave everything on the court and they did,” first-year head coach Jaclyn Hoeper said.

Since the opener, the Tigers have gone 0-4. They dropped two matches Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Fergus Falls triangular with a 4-3 loss to Fergus Falls and a 5-2 loss to Park Rapids. They fell to Benson/KMS 4-3 and Annandale 7-0 Thursday, Aug. 22, in Benson.

“(The season) has been going pretty well so far, can definitely tell the summer work the girls have put in,” Hoeper said. “They all came in with a good attitude right away, so that helps. That seventh seed kind of stung them a little bit last season, so I think they’re ready to prove that’s not who we are and they’re not letting it define them.”

After five matches, the line up is not set in stone, Hoeper said.

“There is still some room for movement, I’m not 100 percent,” Hoeper said of the line up. “It’s the first week and some girls will work really hard during the season. When we do challenge matches, I always tell the girls, that’s not where you are for the year, you need to work to keep your spot and if somebody is working harder or some chemistry is not working out then we would have to change somethings up.”

Katelyn Wehking won her first three matches of the season at No. 2 singles before falling twice Thursday, once at No. 1 singles and once at the No. 2 spot.

The duo of Greta Hentges and Kassidy Girard won two-of-three at No. 1 doubles. Hentges won her fourth match of the year pairing with Abbigail Athey at No. 1 doubles to beat Benson/KMS' Hannah Andrews and Kaitlyn Berreau.

Lakia Manska and Hannah Wutzke have won three at the No. 2 doubles spot. Ireland Winter has three wins with two different partners at No. 3 doubles, including two wins with Brenna Schmidgall.

The Tigers travel to Benson for a West Central Conference meet Tuesday, Aug. 27 then play MACCRAY at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in Morris.
