Mens Tennis: UM-Morris bests North Central for second straight win
The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team (2-2, 1-0 UMAC) defeated North Central (1-4, 1-2 UMAC), 6-3, in its conference opener Thursday night at Lifetime Fitness.
In singles play, the Cougars won four of the six contests. At No. 1 singles, Jack Flicker defeated Judah Smith by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Cole Peters lost to Noah Ramsby in a tiebreaker set (2-6, 6-1, 8-10) at No. 2 singles. Kenneth Riley defeated Kenneth Schrock at No. 3 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
Kenny Knudson recorded a victory in a tiebreaker set over Rodrigo de Mendoza at No. 4 singles (2-6, 6-3, 11-9). Danny Williams bested Jason Vang at No. 5 singles (4-6, 1-6) and Kyler Cooper picked up a victory over Josiah Williams at No. 6 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, the Cougars tallied wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, as Flicker/Peters topped Josh Ekong/ Micah Peterson (8-1) and Riley/Knudson defeated Ramsby/Williams (8-6). North Central picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles as Vang/Cooper lost to Mendoza/Caleb Van Natta (3-8).
The Cougars (2-2) are back in action on Thursday, March 28, against Crown for a UMAC match, in Lakeville. UMM previously beat Crown 6-3 back on March 2.
