The Cougars had a number of top performances on Friday against a field of mostly Division II competition at the two-day Dragon Invite.
WEST FARGO, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris women’s swimming & diving team compiled 130 points on the first night of the Dragon Invite, hosted by Minnesota State University-Moorhead. Facing a number of Division II foes, the Cougars held their own in the six events held on Friday.
The meet began with the 200 Medley Relay and the Cougar ‘A’ team of Morgan Ball, Paige Haugen, Carolyn Curtis, and Abby Doyle turned in a 10th-place finish with a time of 2:05.05. The ‘C’ team also earned points for the Cougars as Anna Fairbanks, Jalissa Johnson, Lilly Radintz, and Victoria Johnson were 13th with a time of 2:25.32.
In the first individual event of the night, Ball took 10th in the 200 Backstroke, touching the wall in 2:30.56. Fairbanks was 16th in the race, turning in a time of 2:49.28.
In the 200 Breaststroke, Haugen was seventh with a time of 2:49.49. That was followed by more point-earning performances from Doyle in ninth place (3:04.25), Jalissa Johnson in 10th place (3:06.67), and Victoria Johnson in 14th place (3:57.47).
In the 100 Butterfly, Jenna Gutterman matched Haugen with the best individual finish of the night, taking seventh in a time of 1:06.13. Curtis was also 11th in the race for the Cougars (1:07.15) and Liesl Smee was 12th (1:08.31).
The 200 Freestyle Relay closed out the first night of competition and the Minnesota Morris ‘A’ team of Curtis, Radintz, Gutterman, and Doyle ended in seventh place with a time of 1:49.22. The ‘B’ team of Jalissa Johnson, Haugen, Ball, and Hannah Wellens finished in 11th place, clocking a 1:53.79.
The second day of action at the Dragon Invite gets started tomorrow at 10 a.m.
