The Hancock Owl softball team split in Pheasant Conference action against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Monday, May 13, in Wheaton. The Owls fell 12-2 in six innings in game one, but bounced back with an 18-15 game two win for the split.

The Owls are now 6-9 overall and close out the regular season against Ortonville at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in Hancock. The Section 6A tournament gets seeded Saturday, May 18 with the play-in round being Tuesday, May 21.

Game 1

Wheaton/H-N 12, Hancock 2

A nine-run fourth inning propelled Wheaton/H-N to a 12-2 win in six innings over Hancock in game one of a doubleheader Monday, May 13, in Wheaton.

The Owls were outhit 10-4 in the game. Carlee Hanson, Haley Mattson, Tori Pahl and Lexi Staples had the hits for Hancock.

Carma Sykora and Jordyn Perry both had two hits to lead the Warriors at the plate. Maycee Tolifson recorded the complete game win in the circle, giving up two earned runs on four hits and striking out eight.

Hancock’s Tori Pahl went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to help the Owls to an 18-15 win in game two, a game that saw both teams combine for 33 runs on 29 hits.

The first three innings saw 23 runs scored with Hancock holding a 12-11 edge. From that point, the Owls outscored Wheaton/H-B 6-4 to win the high-scoring affair.

Lindsey Mattson went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Carlee Hanson, Nadine Miller and Morgan Kisgen all had two hits in the game.

Hanson took the complete game win in the circle. Though she gave up 15 runs on 13 hits, only four runs were earned. She walked four and struck out three.
