Small Group from Track & Field Travels for Tomcat Twilight

ST. PAUL, Minn.– The University of Minnesota Morris had a small group of track & field members go to the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday afternoon for the Tomcat Twilight. There was no team scoring at the event, which featured a few Cougar throwers and a handful of runners facing competition from NCAA Division I, II, and III programs, as well as some NAIA programs.

On the track for Minnesota Morris, Olivia Salzwedel was the lone member of the women’s squad to compete. She ran a time of 13.23 seconds in the 100 Meter Dash and finished 12th. Duncan Vandergon ran the 100 Meter Dash for the men and was 29th overall in 12.15 seconds. Both Vandergon and Joshua Welch competed in the 200 Meter Dash. Vandergon was 26th in 24.46 seconds while Welch was 31st in 25.10 seconds. Finally, Welch ran the 400 Meter Dash in 57.81 seconds and was 24th overall.

Jasmine Terry was the lone jumper in action for Minnesota Morris. In the high jump competition, Terry cleared 4-11 (1.50 meters) on her first attempt, but failed to clear 5-1 and finished in a tie for sixth place.

The rest of the Cougar traveling party consisted of throwers. On the men’s side, Cody Nye was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 47-7.0 (14.50 meters). Bryan Zepeda finished 10th in the event at 42-11.5 (13.09 meters) and Landon Wagner was 15th at 36-7.75 (11.17 meters). In the hammer throw, Luke Petersen finished 11th as he unleashed a throw of 159-10 (48.72 meters). Zepeda also competed in that event and was 15th with a throw of 129-9 (39.56 meters). Finally, Conor Thornbrugh was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 119-6 (36.44 meters).

For the women’s throwers, Hailey Gill placed 15th in the hammer with a throw of 128-8 (39.22 meters). In the javelin, Jenica Moes was third with a distance of 110-0 (33.52 meters) and Samantha Kane was 16th at 69-6 (21.19 meters).

Minnesota Morris will be back in the Twin Cities on April 20 for the Brave Like Gabe Twilight, hosted by the University of Minnesota beginning at 11 a.m.
