Capitalizing on its first five drives in the game, the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta football team beat the host Minnewaska Area Lakers on Friday, Oct. 8, on Veterans Field at Glenwood State Bank Stadium on the campus of Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.
Minnewaska got the ball first, but its opening drive was cut short by an interception by MACA senior Brett Hansen, giving Morris/C-A the ball at its own 43. The drive, which was just five plays, was highlighted by a 54-yard run by Durgin Decker and a 26-yard pass completion from Brandon Jergenson to Toby Gonnerman after which Decker ran six yards for the score.
After the Lakers failed to convert a fourth down, MACA went 75 yards in 11 plays, highlighted by a 15-yard defensive pass interference call, a 13-yard run by Ethan Lebrija and a 14-yard reception by Flynn McNally. Jergenson capped off the drive with a one-yard QB keeper to give MACA a 12-0 lead after the first quarter.
