The Owls took third at the Bertha-Hewitt tournament on Saturday, Oct. 2, in Bertha. In pool play, Hancock beat Swanville 2-0 (25-18, 25-13), split with Parkers Prairie and beat Pillager 2-0 (25-14, 25-18). Going 2-0-1 put them in second-place in their pool and advanced the Owls to the championship bracket where they faced Pine River-Backus for first place. The Owls fell 2-1 (21-25, 25-18, 15-11) to fall to the third place match where they beat Parkers Prairie 2-0 (25-22, 25-16).
No other stats were reported from the tournament.
“The tournament was fast moving with little downtime, so the girls were working hard all day,” third-year coach Kortney Ejnik said. “Tori Pahl had a great defensive day and made some great digs. Once we got into a rhythm, we served well and that helped us throughout the tournament. We finished the weekend strong with a win against Parkers Prairie to take third place. We continue to improve as a team every time we get to play.”
