ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Minnesota Morris senior Connor Oldenburg won UMAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors on Monday after his performance as a punter helped the Cougars defeat the University of Northwestern, 28-21.
With a big wind blowing through Big Cat Stadium on Saturday night, punting was at a premium. Oldenburg did well when kicking into the wind and excelled with the wind behind him. On the night, he had six punts with an average of 36.7 yards per kick. Two of those punts ended inside the Northwestern 20-yard line and he had a long of 52 yards. On the field for most of the defensive snaps as well, he ended with four solo tackles from his safety position.
Following a bye on Saturday, Minnesota Morris closes out the regular season on Nov. 13 with a trip to Greenville University for a 12 p.m. kickoff. A win by the Cougars would put them into a tie for the UMAC regular season title and set up the potential for a berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
