COLLEGEVILLE, Minn.– The University of Minnesota Morris men’s track & field team finished sixth at the SJU/CSB Invitational on Saturday. The Cougar men totaled 45 points on the day.
The top individual finishes for the Cougars came in a pair of throwing events. Cody Nye and Luke Petersen finished in second place in the shot put and the hammer throw, respectively. Nye’s throw of 50-0.75 (15.26 meters) in the shot was a PR and came just a quarter-inch off the school record that was set in 1989 in the event. Petersen unleashed a throw of 157-2 (47.91 meters) in the hammer finish as the runner-up in a field of nearly 20.
The throwing events were the busiest events of the day for the Cougars. In the shot put, other top finishes included Bryan Zepeda in fourth place at 43-3.75 (13.20 meters) and Landon Wagner in fifth place at 40-8.25 (12.40 meters). Justin Robinson took sixth in the hammer with a distance of 152-10 (46.58 meters). In the discus, Ben Paulson was fifth with a throw of 127-3 (38.79 meters) and Nye was sixth at 126-8 (38.61 meters).
