Morris Benson 3, May-Port 1

Will Breuer had a goal and assist, Peyton LeClair stopped 20 shots and Morris Benson Area beat MayPort 3-1 on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Lee Community Center in Morris.

Brady DeHaan opened the scoring at 8:04 of the first period with Brady Loge and Breuer assisting. Ryan Tolifson’s goal off a feed from Cole Blume came about six minutes later and the Storm led 2-0 after one period.

Breuer pushed the lead to 3-0 with a blistering shot past Trevin Applegren with just 29 seconds left in the second period, Zach Bruns assisted.

“May-Port is a very good team,” Storm coach Jeremiah Day said of the team that beat Breckenridge-Wahpeton 10-0 and Red Lake Falls 4-2 earlier in the season. “We played very well in front of our net (Saturday) and didn’t allow players to get loose in our zone. Peyton (LeClair) played very well in net for us. We were able to break out the puck consistently and not have turnovers at our blue line. We were also successful at getting the puck deep into their zone and maintaining possession, giving us good scoring opportunities. We also did not allow odd-man rushes down the ice. It was a very good team win.”

Lucas Fugleberg busted up the shutout for the Patriots. Applegren had 24 saves in net.

MBA’s Christopher Danielson came in late and stopped all five shots he saw for the Storm.
