Cody Nye and Luke Petersen each smashed their own school records in the shot put and hammer throw on Thursday.
LA CROSSE, Wis.– The University of Minnesota Morris track & field teams sent a group of throwers to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Last Chance Meet on Thursday afternoon and ended the day with a new pair of school records.
In the men’s shot put, Cody Nye used his final throw out of six on the afternoon to establish a new school record of 51-9.00 (15.77 meters), a distance that could possibly see him through to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships as he won the competition. In the men’s hammer throw, Luke Petersen obliterated his previous school record, adding more than eight feet onto the new program standard mark with a 177-0 (53.97 meters).
Over on the women’s side, Jenica Moes finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 126-10 (38.67 meters). Hailey Gill competed in two events, recording distances of 135-2 (41.20 meters) in the hammer throw and 37-5.75 (11.42 meters) in the shot put.
The NCAA will soon announce qualifiers for the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held from May 26-28 in Geneva, Ohio.
