GRAND FORKS, N.D.– The University of Minnesota Morris took part in the UND Tune-Up on Saturday, the final meet for the Cougars before the UMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend. Though the meet was unscored, the Cougars had a number of solid performances from their runners, as well as a PR forCody Nyein the weight throw.
In track event, Duncan Vandergon and Joshua Welch had top-eight finishes in the 200 Meter Dash, with Vandergon finishing seventh in 25.12 seconds and Welch taking eighth in 25.60 seconds.
In the 600 Meter Run on UND’s 300-meter track, Grant Strukel was fifth in 1:30.16. Rory Shackelford then took eighth in the 800 Meter Run in 2:06.07.
Among the throwers, Nye had the top showing on Saturday in both the shot put and weight throw, finishing sixth in each event. In the shot put, Nye had a best distance of 47-2.50 (14.39 meters). In the weight throw, his distance of 47-0.75 (14.34 meters) was the seventh-best in program history. Luke Petersen also had a top-eight finish in the event with a distance of 44-11.75 (13.71 meters).
Minnesota Morris heads to the UMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 25-26 in Superior, Wis. Action gets underway on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday’s action will get started at 11 a.m.
