Men’s Track & Field Resumes Season at Cobber Open

MOORHEAD, Minn.– The University of Minnesota Morris men’s track & field team placed fifth with a small group of team members taking part in the Cobber Open on Saturday, hosted by Concordia University-Moorhead.

In track events, Anthony Rozycki was the runner-up in the 3000 Meters with a time of 10:56.80. In the other distance event, Grant Strukel placed sixth in the mile with a time of 5:21.54 with Connor Fitzgerald one spot back in 5:32.23.

Keegan Casey led the way in a pair of sprint events for the Cougars. The freshman was 13th in the 60 Meter Dash (7.66 seconds) and seventh in the 200 Meter Dash (25.25 seconds).

The largest contingent of Cougars in action on Saturday were the throwers. In the shot put, Bryan Zepeda had the ninth-best distance in school history with a heave of 44-2.50 (13.47 meters), finishing fifth in the event. Justin Robinson was one spot behind with an effort of 44-0.75 (13.43 meters).

Robinson also had the best finish for the team in the weight throw, taking eighth with a throw of 47-1.75 (14.37 meters). Luke Petersen improved on his PR in the weight throw and had the 10th-best throw in program history with an effort of 45-7.75 (13.91 meters) to take ninth.

Minnesota Morris is back at it next week, traveling to Collegeville for the Saint John’s Alumni Meet on Jan. 29.
