MAHACA matmen roll to 11-3

The Morris Area / Hancock / Chokio-Alberta wrestling team cruised to 11-3 in the dual season after going 4-0 on the mat last week. The Tigers beat BOLD and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at the BOLD triangular Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Olivia, and then added wins over New Ulm and Lakeville North at the New Ulm triangular Thursday, Jan. 20, in New Ulm.

The Tigers, 11-3, participated at the Hutchinson Invite Saturday, Jan. 22 and will next host Marshall and Minneota at a triangular on Friday, Jan. 28, in Morris.

BOLD Triangular

The Tigers beat BOLD 69-12 and TMB-WWG 39-24 at the BOLD triangular on Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Olivia. 

Tyce Anderson, Grayson Gibson, Davin Rose, Hunter Massner, Dain Schroeder, Asher Malek, Hunter Gibson and Brock Marty all went 2-0 on the night.

MAHACA 69, BOLD 12

The Tigers used five forfeit victories and six pins to score 66 of their 69 points in a 69-12 dominant win over the Warriors Tuesday night, in Olivia.

Tyce Anderson at 106, Dallas Walton at 126, Ethan Lebrija at 132, Hunter Massner at 152, Dain Schroeder at 160, and Levi Kellenberger at heavyweight all took pinfall victories.

BOLD’s points were scored on two pinfalls at 120 pounds and 170 pounds.

In the 145 pound match, junior Davin Rose took a 5-4 decision win over sophomore Austin Kiecker, who is ranked third in Class A at 138 pounds.

MAHACA 39, TMB-W-WG 24

The Tigers and Panthers went back and forth for much of their dual, but it was the Tigers that came out victorious thanks to six pins and only giving up two.

Tyce Anderson opened the dual with a 7-6 decision over seventh-ranked in Class A Linkoln Carlson. Grayson Gibson pinned his opponent at 1:11 at 113 pounds to give MAHACA a quick 9-0 lead. The Panthers were able to tie the dual at 9-9 after three straight decision victories. The Tiger won six of the final nine weights to pull off the win over the Class A Lean and Mean team.

MAHACA got four pins over the final nine weights en route to victory. Davin Rose at 138, Hunter Massner at 152, Dain Schroeder at 160, and Hunter Gibson at 195 all pinned their opponents.

Another noteworthy win came from Brock Marty, who took a 5-2 decision over seventh-ranked in Class A Travis Willhite at 220 pounds.

New Ulm Triangular

The Tigers beat Class 3A Lakeville North 38-37 and the host New Ulm 34-27 Thursday, Jan. 20, at the triangular in New Ulm.

Tyce Anderson, Caden Rose, Asher Malek, and Hunter Gibson all went 2-0 on the night. Gibson had two pins.

MAHACA 38, Lakeville North 37

Two forfeits to start the match helped MAHACA squeak out a 38-37 win over Class 3A Lakeville North Thursday evening, in New Ulm.

Caden Rose at 145, Hunter Gibson at 195, and Brock Marty at 220 were the only ones to pin their opponents as MAHACA gave up four pins on the night. Asher Malek took a tech fall win 18-2 over his opponent at 182 pounds.

Davin Rose lost by major decision 14-6 to Jore Volk, who is No. 1 in Class 3A at 132 pounds. In the 152 pound match, Hunter Massner was pinned in 3:26 by Zach Hanson, who is No. 2 in Class 3A at 145 pounds.

MAHACA 34, New Ulm 27

MAHACA earned four pins and only gave up two en route to a 34-27 win over New Ulm Thursday night.

Alex Sperr at 120, Davin Rose at 138, Asher Malek at 182, and Hunter Gibson at 195 all won by fall against their respective opponents. Caden Rose also took bonus points in his match, taking a major decision victory (8-0) at 145 pounds.
