The Hancock Owls cruised past West Central Area for the second time this season and remained undefeated on the year at 9-0. The Owls also beat Hillcrest Monday, Feb. 8.

Junior Carlee Hanson has been a big part of the win streak, though, she’s not one to take all the credit.

“This was a team win, without every single girl on our team, we couldn’t have done it. Defense and team-play wins games,” Hanson said after the Owls’ statement victory over WCA Friday, Feb. 12.

Hanson averaged 14 points through the first four games of the season and has upped that to 20.8 points per game over the last five games.

“I have been feeling really (good) with my shooting, but I wouldn’t get the open looks without my teammates getting me the ball and getting me open,” Hanson added.

“Carlee is a hard worker and has been getting a lot of points that I refer to as hustle points, turning a steal or deflection into a layup. She has led us on the floor with her hustle and she has been rewarded for her effort,” Owl coach Tony Thielke said.

The Owls, ranked 10th in Class A according to MN Basketball Hub, played at Battle Lake Monday, Feb. 15 and will close out the week against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Friday, Feb. 19, in Hancock. Next Monday, Feb. 22, the Owls travel to Melrose Monday, Feb. 22 for a non-conference game.
