Gymnastics: Tigers crush season high at Moorhead Invite

The Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta gymnastics team recorded a new season-high at the Moorhead invitational Saturday, Jan. 12, in Moorhead.

The Tigers participated in the two-team White Division and won with a season high 125.8 points.

The Tigers had 22 new personal best scores set and one tie at the invite, which led to three new season high event totals and the new season high team score.

Freshman Olivia Lebrija had a stellar meet as she took first in all four events and in all around competition. She was also one of four Tigers to perform a perfect beam routine.

Seventh-grader Taylor Kill took third in all around competition after placing second on the beam and floor and third on the vault. She, like Lebrija, also stuck her beam routine.

Freshman Tasha Koehl took third place on the beam with a perfect beam routine.

Junior Sara Hoffman also performed a stuck beam routine, took fifth on the floor and tied for fifth on the vault. Junior Greta Schaefer was a part of that fifth place tie on the vault and she also took fifth on the bars.

Freshman Callie Snell finished fourth in all around competition and placed third on the floor.

“Great meet for the Lady Tigers,” MAHACA coach Trent Oberg said. “Nice to see the improvements and higher scores. Their hard work and focus is showing.”

The varsity Tigers are next in action against Marshall Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Morris. It will be their final home meet of the season.
