Boys Hockey: Storm picks up two more, improves to 17-4

The Morris Benson Area Storm boys hockey team picked up two more wins to improve to 17-4 on the regular season. The Storm beat Wadena Deer Creek Tuesday, Feb. 4 and Worthington Saturday, Feb. 1.

The Storm, now 17-4 on the season, played Bagley-Fosston Saturday and Redwood Valley Monday. They close out the regular season at Breckenridge/Wahpeton Tuesday, Feb. 11 and against Becker/Big Lake Thursday, Feb. 13, in Morris. Section 6A playoff seedings are announced Wednesday, Feb. 12 with playoffs beginning with play-in games Saturday, Feb. 15. The subsection quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the higher seed.

MBA Storm 5, WDC 1

Morris Benson Area Storm had goals from five different players en route to a 5-1 victory over Wadena Deer Creek Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Wadena.

Ryan Tolifson and Brady Loge gave the Storm a 2-0 lead after the first period. Will Breuer made it 3-0 midway through the second before WDC got in the board with its lone goal of the game.

Zach Bruns scored just 20 seconds into the third from an assist from Jack Riley and Sam Thompson recorded his first goal of the season just over a minute later to seal the win.

Riley is just eight points away from 100 points in his career. The Storm have four games left in the regular season before playoffs and Riley is averaging about 1.7 points per game. His highest point output of the season is when he had four goals for four points in the first meeting with Wadena Deer Creek Dec. 3.

Senior Chase Engebretson is now 16-2 in net with just over 400 saves on the season. He has a save percentage of 91.6 percent.

Zach Bruns, Brady Loge and Reece Kuseske each scored two goals to lead Morris Benson Area past Worthington Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Benson Civic Arena.

Tyler Buss scored the Storm’s other goal.
