No. 3-seeded Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta entered its Section 3AA-North championship matchup against Redwood Valley as a prohibitive favorite based on numbers, like win-loss record and seeding.

But the only number that mattered for pressuring, up-tempo No. 4-seeded Cardinals were the points in their column at the end of the night.

Redwood Valley bounced out to a big lead early, then never let the Tigers close the gap significantly and won the subsection title 86-74 on Monday, March 11, at Willmar High School in Willmar.

Redwood Valley clogged up 6-foot-6 Tiger center Jackson Loge inside and the Tigers didn't shoot well enough from long range—3-of-17 three-pointers—to make the Cardinals pay. Morris/C-A also committed 20 turnovers, many against the Cardinals' incessant pressure.

Once the ball was up and off, the Cardinals rebounded and were off.

Cole Woodford led the Cardinals with 32 points, and Bryant Haas had 17 points and eight rebounds. Colin Wells scored 12 points and Connor Josephson had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Morris/C-A's Camden Arndt had 25 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, and Loge finished with 23 points and 12 boards. Jaret Johnson scored 19 points.

The Cardinals face South’s top-seed St. James in the 3AA championship game, with a state tournament berth on the line, at 5 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

The Tigers end the season 18-9 overall and graduate seven seniors off their roster: Arndt, Johnson, Mace Yellow, Joseph Kleinwolterink, Zach Hughes, Micah Aanerud, and Kevin Asfeld.
