Baseball: Eagles cruise to victory over Rox

A four-run first inning was a big enough lead for Morris to cruise to a 7-2 win over the Ortonville Rox Sunday, July 7, at Chizek Field in Morris.

The Chokio Coyotes and Morris Eagles have clinched postseason berths as the top six teams of the Land O’ Ducks league receive an automatic bid into the Region 9C playoffs. The Coyotes close out the regular season against Dumont at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in Chokio, while the Eagles close out their season against Appleton at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in Appleton.

The Hancock Orphans are still fighting for a playoff spot, sitting in seventh overall with a 4-5 Land O’ Ducks league record. The Orphans close out the regular season against Appleton and Ortonville Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14, in Hancock. Both games start at 2 p.m.

Hancock sits behind fifth-place sitting Cottonwood (5-4 league record) and sixth-place sitting Clinton (5-5 league record).
