Baseball: Late runs give Morris Legion comeback win
The Morris American Legion baseball team took the lead in the top of the seventh inning and held off Glenwood in the bottom half for a 4-3 victory Monday, July 8, at Minnewaska Area High School.
Colten Scheldorf reached on an error that allowed Zach Bruns to tie the game and Jack Riley to score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh for Morris.
Morris also had two runs in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI double by Jaret Johnson and an RBI single by Kevin Asfeld.
Joe Kleinwolterink was 2-for-3 to lead Morris at the plate. Grant Jensen, Dylan Jergenson and Cade Fish all had two hits apiece for Glenwood/Lowry.
Austin Berlinger took the complete game win, giving up three earned runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out seven.
Luke Barkheim was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Morris next plays Wheaton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, at Chizek Field in Morris then close out the regular season against the Bandits at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15, in Wheaton. Playoffs begin Friday, July 19.
