If his first at bat was a sign of things to come, it would be a good day for Morris’ Jaret Johnson. In his first plate appearance, he took the first two pitches, both balls, then connected on a pitch and sent the ball over the center field fence for a solo home run. Johnson went on to finish the game with four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead Morris over Hancock 15-3 Monday, June 10, in Hancock.

Morris went up 2-0 in the first inning after the Johnson homer and an RBI single by Jack Riley scored Kevin Asfeld, who reached via walk, from second base.

Morris added three more runs in the third. Johnson scored on a passed ball then Cade Fehr had an RBI single to score Asfeld. Then with two outs, Chandler Wilts reached on an error, allowing Fehr to score and give Morris a 5-0 lead.

After Hancock went down in order in the bottom of the third, Morris rattled off four more runs on five hits in the top of the fourth to extend its lead even further. Johnson singled in Zach Bruns, Fehr singled in Johnson, and Joe Kleinwolterink singled in Fehr to give Morris a 9-0 lead.

Hancock finally got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. A double by Peyton Rohloff scored Gideon Joos, who reached via walk to lead off the inning. Then a two-RBI single by Taylor Hanson scored Colton Crowell and Rohloff to trim the deficit to 9-3.

Morris got two of those runs back in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Johnson then added four more runs in the seventh for the victory. Jordan Leuthardt hit a two-RBI single to score Camden Arndt and Wilts. Then, with two outs, Asfeld singled in Bradley Rohloff. In the same play, Asfeld advanced to second on the throw home and Bruns scored on the throw to second to make it 15-3 Morris.

Asfeld had three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Fehr, Kleinwolterink, Wilts and Austin Berlinger all added two hits apiece.

Berlinger took the win on the hill for Morris. He went five innings, gave up three earned runs on four hits, walked one and struck out eight. Fehr picked up the save, giving up one hit in the final two innings.

Hancock had five hits in the game. Preston Rohloff was tagged with the loss after going 3.1 innings on the mound and giving up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits.
