Morris cruised past Benson, 12-2 in five innings, in the Junior American Legion baseball playoffs Thursday, July 25, in Morris, and will now play top-seeded Starbuck Tuesday, July 30, in Glenwood.
Against No. 3-seeded Benson Thursday, No. 2-seeded Morris jumped ahead with a two-out rally that put up nine first-inning runs on the scoreboard on its way to a five-inning victory.
Morris pounded out 10 hits while holding Benson to just three in the game. Brandon Jergenson, Zach Bruns, Derek Giese and Ross Marty had two hits each. Bruns had three RBIs while Dylan Rose and Giese had two apiece.
Bruns took the win on the hill, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and striking out five.
Morris has went 1-2 against Starbuck in the regular season, including a tournament loss on July 13, at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood. Morris' lone win against Starbuck was back on June 14, in Morris, thanks to a walk-off by Will Breuer. Starbuck got revenge with a walk-off of its own on July 12, in Glenwood.
