The No. 2-seeded Morris Junior Legion baseball team shut out No. 7 New London-Spicer 12-0 in five innings in the District 7 playoff opener Tuesday, July 23, at Chizek Field in Morris.

Morris pounded out 12 hits in the game in four innings. Riley Reimers went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Mason Dougherty had two hits and two RBIs. Zach Bruns and Will Breuer also added two hits each in the win.

No. 3 Benson beat No. 6 Kerkhoven 7-2 in the earlier game, in Morris, so Benson will play Morris at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in Morris. Kerkhoven and NLS will play an elimination game at 7 p.m., in Morris.

In other District 7 playoff action, No. 1 Starbuck beat No. 8 Sauk Centre 9-3 and No. 4 Brooten edged a 1-0 win over No. 5 ACGC. Starbuck and Brooten will play at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood. Sauk Centre and ACGC play an elimination game at 7 p.m., in Glenwood.

After Thursday, playoffs continue Tuesday, July 30, at the higher seed.
