The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tiger track and field teams will have 11 participating in the Class A State Track and Field meet Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, at Hamline University in St. Paul. To advance to the finals from the preliminary heats, the top two from each heat advance along with the next five best times.
Junior Lexi Pew competes in her first state track and field meet in the high jump finals right when the Class A portion gets underway at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 7. Her height of 5-02 is a top four height in the field of 20 girls. Thirteen girls have a seed mark of 5-02 with the top seed mark being 5-04. The girls high jump will start at a height of 4-10.
Sophomore Kaylie Raths and freshman Olivia Lebrija will participate in the first running event of the Class A state meet, the 100-meter hurdle preliminary heats, at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Raths had a season best 16.72 while teammate Lebrija had a season best 16.6 at the Section 6A meet last week. Both those seed times rank in the bottom half of the preliminary heats.
Senior Camden Arndt will participate in the 110-meter hurdles. His seed time of 15.42 ranks in a tie for sixth in the field of 17 boys.
The next event for the Tigers is the boys 4x200-meter relay of Kenny Soderberg, Mace Yellow, Zach Hughes and Noah Thielke. Kenny Soderberg ran in the Section 6A meet as an alternate in place of Nathan Beyer, who got injured, and helped the relay finish in 1:33.37. The seed time for the Tiger relay is ranked 13th in the field of 17. Beyer and Arndt are alternates for the state 4x200-meter relay.
The 800-meter run preliminary rounds is the next event for the Tigers. Maddie Carrington participates in the first heat of the girls race and Jaden Maanum is slated in heat one for the boys race. Carrington’s seed time of 2:21.86, a season best for the junior, is 11th in the field of 16 runners. Maanum’s seed time of 2:02.44 is 14th in a field of 21 runners. Maanum has a season best time of 2:00.89 in the event.
The boys 4x400-meter relay team of Hughes, Arndt, Yellow and Maanum compete in the final preliminary event on Friday evening. The foursome has a seed time of 3:31.31, which ranks 10th out of the 16-team field. Solomon Johnson and Ben Hernandez are alternates for the relay.
Carrington, Noah Stewart and Maanum all participate in finals slated for Saturday, June 8.
Maanum’s personal best long jump of 21-02 in the finals of the Section 6A meet ranks ninth in the state long jump field of 17 participants. He’ll compete in the second heat in the long jump finals right when the finals get underway at 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Carrington and Stewart will run in the 1600-meter run. Carrington’s season best time of 5:18.81 ranks 10th in the girls field of 17 runners. Stewart’s seed time of 4:29.70, also a season best, ranks fifth in the boys field of 16 runners.
