The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team closed out its spring break trip 2-7 after dropping six straight to close out the trip. The Cougars dropped a doubleheader to Hope College 6-2 and 8-0 Wednesday, March 20 then fell to Lawrence 18-3 Friday, March 22. After a 13-1 loss to St. Olaf Saturday, March 23, the Cougars dropped a doubleheader to Colby 9-2 and 3-1 Sunday, March 23, in Auburndale, Florida.

The Cougars return to Minnesota to play Carleton in a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday, March 31, in St. Paul.

Hope 6, UM-Morris 2

Hope College got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning as Jordon Fairchild hit a sac fly to center field to score the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Trace Slancik singled to right center to score a pair of runs to make it 3-0.

The Dutch then added a run in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-0.

With the Cougars up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, Blake Haugen and Brian Vanyo both crossed home plate on wild pitches to bring the game to 6-2, but the Cougars weren't able to score again.

Thomas Eckstein struck out a pair of batters and allowed four hits in five innings of work. Also on the mound, Kyle Hastings struck out three in two innings.

Hope 8, UM-Morris 0

The Dutch scored five runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back en route to their 8-0 win in the finale of the doubleheader.

Hope then added another three runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 8-0.

For the Cougars, their offense was limited to just two hits in the game.

Lawrence 18, UM-Morris 3

The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team (2-4) was defeated by the Lawrence Vikings (3-6), 18-3, Friday, March 22. Freshman Alex Baumann had two RBI on the day for the Cougars.

Lawrence took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second before the Cougars responded with three runs of their own in the top of the third, which included a two-run single from Baumann.

The game remained tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the fourth when the Vikings scored 13 runs and then they added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 18-3.

St. Olaf 13, UM-Morris 1

The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team (2-5) fell to in-state opponent St. Olaf (7-2) by a score of 13-1 in seven innings on Saturday, March 23. Brady Jergenson recorded the lone RBI for the Cougars in the top of the fifth.

St. Olaf scored a run in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Holding a 1-0 lead, St. Olaf scored three runs in the third and another one in the fourth.

Trailing 5-0, Jergenson singled to left field to bring home Alex Baumann in the top of the fifth.

St. Olaf then scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 13-1 lead.

Colby 9, UM-Morris 2

Colby opened up the first game scoring three runs in the first and three runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Trailing 6-0 heading into the home half of the second, Minnesota Morris scored two runs on a Colby error.

Colby then added two runs in the third and one more run in the fourth to make it a 9-2 contest. The Cougars were unable to score again, giving Colby the 9-2 win in game one.

Colby 3, UM-Morris 1

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead on an Alex Baumann RBI infield single in the second.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Colby scored three runs, which would hold up in the 3-1 victory.
