In the second-half, Eden Valley-Watkins proved why it was the No. 1 seed in the Section 3AA-North as the Eagles held the No. 4-seeded Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls basketball team to just 19 points. The Eagles remained perfect on the year at 26-0 and will advance to the subsection championship.
The Tigers were up 34-32 at halftime, but a strong second-half Eagle defense gave up just 19 points to Morris/C-A while pouring on 31 to win 63-53 Thursday, Feb. 28, at Willmar High School in Willmar.
Eden Valley-Watkins had given up 50 points just once prior to the subsection semifinal game. It was against Melrose when the Eagles put up a season-high 87 to defeat the Dutchmen 87-54 on Jan. 15, in Melrose.
Litchfield upset No. 2-seeded New London-Spicer 41-38 in the late game Thursday evening, in Willmar, to set up the Section 3AA-North championship match against EV-Watkins Tuesday, in New London.
The Tigers close out the 2018-2019 season 18-9 overall and graduate three seniors: Riley Decker, Jordann Baier and Liz Dietz.
