The Minnesota Morris volleyball team will make their first NCAA Tournament appearance at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 against host Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter.
The Cougars earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament championship Saturday night at Northwestern.
Gustavus won both the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular season and tournament championships after posting a 27-2 overall record and 11-0 conference mark. The Gusties are No. 1-ranked in the Central Region.
Minnesota Morris and Gustavus last met during the 2017 season when the Gusties topped the Cougars in three sets in a tournament in Eau Claire, Wis.
The Cougars faced six teams in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field this season and posted a 3-3 record. In the season-opening UW-Whitewater Invitational, the Cougars opened with a sweep of DePauw and then lost to UW-Whitewater in four sets. The following week in the Colorado College Invitational, the Cougars faced Pacific Lutheran (5-set loss), and Colorado College (3-set loss). UMM defeated two MIAC teams which included a four-set win at Saint Benedict and a home sweep of Augsburg.
Minnesota Morris and Gustavus will be the fourth and final match of the Friday slate in St. Peter. The rest of the schedule includes:
12:30 p.m. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps vs. Augsburg
3 p.m. - UW-Eau Claire vs. St. Thomas
5:30 p.m. - Saint Benedict vs. Pacific Lutheran
8 p.m. - Gustavus Adolphus vs. Minnesota Morris
