The University of Minnesota, Morris men's soccer team went 1-1 over the weekend. The Cougars defeated Bethany Lutheran in conference play Saturday, Oct. 6, in Mankato, then fell to St. John's in a non-conference game Sunday, Oct. 7, in Morris.
Minnesota Morris (4-7-3) returns to UMAC play Wednesday, Oct. 10 when the Cougars host Northwestern at 1 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer Field in Morris.
UM-Morris 1, Bethany Lutheran 0
The Minnesota Morris men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four games with a 1-0 win Saturday, Oct. 6, at Bethany Lutheran in Mankato.
The first half was scoreless despite Bethany Lutheran holding a 6-1 advantage in shots. UMM goalkeeper helped keep it scoreless with four saves in the opening 45 minutes.
The Cougars pumped up the intensity on offense in the second half outshooting the Vikings 6-2. One of their shots went into the back of the Bethany net as Hugo Castaneda's goal in the 63rd minute with the assist from Corbin McCall gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Peterson stopped both shots sent his way in the second half and made six saves in total.
St. John’s 3, UM-Morris 0
In cool, cloudy conditions Sunday, Oct. 7, the Minnesota Morris men's soccer team hosted a non-conference game with Saint John's and fell, 3-0, at the Cougar Soccer Field in Morris.
The Johnnies would take an early lead on the Cougars as Ben Becker scored in the 11th minute. They would take that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Becker scored again in the 71st minute to extend the lead. SJU would add another in the 77th minute off the foot of Nathan Stone.
Matt Marshall came in after halftime and made eight saves in net for the Cougars.
