In their final meet before the UMAC Championships, the Minnesota Morris men's and women’s golf teams competed in the two-day Viking Invitational Friday, Sept. 28, at Crow River Golf Club in Hutchinson, and Saturday, Sept. 29, at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.

Northwestern won the men’s team event with a combined score of 622. Minnesota Morris came in 10th place with a team score of 733.

St. Scholastica won the women’s team event with a two-day score of 742. UW-Superior finished one shot ahead of the Cougars with a score of 784. The Cougars (785) were six shots better than Bethany Lutheran.

Individually, freshman Orion Collins was the Cougar top golfer over the two days. His scores of 80 and 81 (161) were good for a tie for 10th place overall. Mitch Baumann combined to shoot a 203. Kyle Hastings and Michael Head shot a 212 and 219, respectively. Trent Jerome played only Friday and carded an 83. Kyle Och only played Saturday and shot a 74, tied for third best round among all golfers on the day.

All four Cougar golfers placed in the top 15. Meghan Foley led the way for UMM with a two-day score of 187, good for eighth place. Payton Sierra was a shot behind with a 188, good for a tie for ninth place. Brynn Combs and Brittany Lormis each carded a 205, good for a tie for 14th.

Minnesota Morris next competes at the UMAC Championships Thursday through Saturday, Oct 4-6, at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
