The Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary’s State Convention was in June at St. Cloud. President Joan Kopacek, local auxiliary president, brought back to the post and Auxiliary some very nice awards earned by our local members.
Our Auxiliary received a national award from Veterans of Foreign Wars for our successful Buddy Poppy drive and use of Buddy Poppies in auxiliary programs. Thank you to the business places and community for their generous support.
Thanks to the generosity of all in donating to the Buddy Poppy drive, we received recognition from the national VFW for our participation and monetary donations to the Veterans & Military Support Programs. This also included sewed items made by our sewing group.
The sewing group is made up of American Legion and VFW Auxiliary members along with a couple of non-members. They meet from April to July and then September to Thanksgiving Monday mornings from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the American Legion clubroom putting together quilts, neck pillows, and laundry, tote and walker bags. The American Legion has been very generous in providing room for working and storing our supplies.
We received the Historian Media Relations Award in grateful recognition of outstanding news coverage for VFW Auxiliary 5039. Thank you to The Stevens County Times and KMRS Radio Station for publicizing our programs.
Thank you to everyone for your part in helping our veterans, military and their families. Only with your wonderful cooperation is this all possible. We have a very caring community.
Helen Kill, VFW Aux. 5039 Secretary Morris
