Virene Irwin-Nagl

Funeral services for Virene Irwin-Nagl, of Morris, was held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at First Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation held one-hour prior. Reverend Matt Orendorff officiating. Burial was in Summit Cemetery in Morris.

Virene Irwin Nagl was born on June 9, 1929 to Archie and Pearl (Blood) Peters in Traverse County, Minnesota and attended school in Chokio, Minnesota. Virene married Curtis Irwin on October 25, 1947, made their home and raised their five sons on the Irwin family farm in Rensville Township. Virene worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Stevens County Medical Center for over 30 years and retired in 1994. She loved her patients and the people she worked with at the center. After Curt’s passing in 1993, Virene married George Nagl in 2003. They remained on the farm for many more years until their move to Morris, Minnesota.

Virene was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Morris and was very involved with her Bible Study group. She volunteered and had many friends in the community. She always had a full calendar, even more so after she retired. She loved crafting, gardening and loved her family and any chance to get together. Virene and Curt loved their trips to Montana to spend time with their sons and families. Brother and sister reunions and family reunions were always special to her. Virene also loved her winter home in Florida with George, her sisters and their husbands.

Virene passed away on January 13, 2021, at the West Wind Village in Morris. She was 91 years old.

Virene is survived by her sons Clayton (Lorraine) of Donnelly, John of Morris, Dan (Kiki) of Martin City, MT, and Ivan (Donna) of Hungry Horse, MT; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; sisters Mary Lou Stephens of Grand Rapids, Leila Haigh and Dianne Fischer of Bovey, and Janet Hudson of Black River Falls, WI; and brother David Peters of Goodland. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Curtis; son Wesley; grandson Danny Irwin; brothers Merlin and Harley; sisters Hazel DeLong and Rosella Stanley; brothers-in-law Sam Stephens, John DeLong, Larry Haigh, Richard Hudson and Ron Fischer; and sisters-in-law Betty, Ruth and Pat.
