Lloyd Herman Melchert, age 96 formally of rural Hancock, Minnesota, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at WellStar Spalding Hospital. Lloyd Herman Melchert, son of Herman and Sophie (Wente) Melchert was born on October 30, 1924 in Fairfield Township, Swift County Minnesota, growing up he attended country school until the eighth grade when he stopped to help with the family farm. On November 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Arlene Hoffman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock. To his union, two children were born. Lloyd and Arlene owned and operated the family farm for many years. Lloyd and Arlene were married for 69 years. Arlene passed away on June 17, 2014.

In September of 2014, Lloyd moved from Morris, Minnesota to live with his son, Rick in North Dakota. Lloyd did not stop there, he followed his son to Luray, Virginia and ended up on a farm located in Barnesville, GA. Lloyd enjoyed those years traveling anticipating when the next “adventure” would be! Lloyd enjoyed watching his grown son, carry out the wisdom he instilled in him of raising cattle and other farm animals. Lloyd would sit out in the warm Georgia sun, look over at his son, Rick and said “Why didn’t we move here sooner?” Smiling with an enormous grin, chuckle and stated “I’m just now starting to unthaw from all those long cold winters.”
Lloyd never took a day without enjoying it to the fullest. A man with wisdom, a loving hug, huge smile and/or an exceptional laugh! We will miss our discussion in the warm sun! There never was a time that was spent not knowing how happy dad was being with us.

There will be a private family service for Lloyd Herman Melchert, long time resident of the Hancock/ Morris, Minnesota area. Private service and burial will be held sometime in the late spring of 2022 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township Cemetery, Hancock, Minnesota. Notification will be given once a date is finalized.

He is survived by his children: Rick (Bonnie) Melchert of Barnesville, Ga, and Randy Melchert of Winstead, MN; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, one son; three brothers; and three sisters. Lloyd was the last Melchert child of Herman and Sophie Melchert.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help pay with final expenses and mailed to The Melchert Family, PO Box 399, Barnesville, GA 30204.
