Karen Schulz, age 66 of Glenwood, MN formerly Villard, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at home. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 7th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, with Pastor Lynndene Way officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Karen Joyce Luthi, the second daughter of George and Ruby (Cook) Luthi, was born January 6, 1955 in Morris, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Morris and graduated from Morris High School in 1972. The next year on October 6, 1973, Karen wed Marvin Schulz in Morris. They made their home on a farm near Villard where in addition to raising their five children they also raised cattle, hogs and chickens. After 17 years of marriage, the two divorced. Karen and the children remained on the farm. There Karen had a large garden where she grew vegetables for her family to enjoy and she sold fresh produce to the public from a garden stand she created.
Karen was active in developing the social group in the Friends United Networking (F.U.N. Bunch). This was a group who planned outings once a month for disabled individuals. She also enjoyed writing, drawing, painting, creating pottery and gardening.
Karen will be remembered by those who knew her as a caretaker; someone who was willing to help others. She was a person whose door was always open and she always made time to sit down and share a cup of coffee with family and friends.
Karen passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at her residence in Glenwood Estates, where she’d resided for the past several months.
She is survived by her five children, Sandy (Edgardo Jara) Schulz of Fernandina Beach, FL, Dustin (Terri) Schulz of Glenwood, Rose Schulz and Matt Swedenburg of Fergus Falls, Angela (Tony) Frederick of Villard, and Mitchell Schulz and Wendy Holthaus of Kensington; four grandchildren Haillie, Taylor and Parker Schulz and Jeremiah Frederick; and one sister, Ardis Lesmeister of Morris; along with other family and many friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruby Luthi.
