Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass at the church.

Edell passed away March 7, 2020, at the Courage Cottage in Morris having reached the age of 93 years. She died peacefully with her family at her side.

Edell Theresa Swanson was born September 9, 1926, in Morris, the daughter of Anthony and Thelma (Smith) Storck of rural Morris.  She grew up on the family farm in Swan Lake Township, Stevens County. She attended District 40 school in Swan Lake Township through the eighth grade. Edell then went on to St. Mary’s School in Morris for three years, graduating from Morris High School in 1944.  She received an education degree from Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She then taught at school district 33 and 70 in Stevens County and later at St. Mary’s School in Morris.

Edell was married to Douglas M. Swanson on June 14, 1947, at Assumption Church in Morris.  The couple farmed near Cyrus, near Pomme de Terre Lake, and for many years on a farm in Darnen Township. Doug died in 2000, and Edell moved from the farm to Morris in 2005.

She was active in Assumption Church, Morris Women’s Club, VFW Auxiliary, St. Michael’s Mission Circle, MCCL, 4-H, and volunteering for numerous organizations. Edell was a loving and prayerful woman with a kind heart. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, flower gardening, feeding the birds, and attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events. She loved a cup of coffee with friends and always welcomed a warm hug.

Edell  loved being a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was also proud of her ten godchildren, as well as all the students she taught.

She is survived by eight children, Joel (Donna) of New Brighton, Keith (Judith) of Hoffman, Kenneth (Janell) of Montevideo, Patricia Kilanowski of Avon, Chad (Sheila) of Alexandria, Rod (Carol)  of Fargo, North Dakota, Angela (Jim) Nelson of Benson, and Tod (Sandy) of Blaine; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Theodore Storck of Morris and Richard (Joyce) Storck of Rockford; brother-in-law Leland (Laverne) Swanson of Benson; sister-in-law Dorothy Storck of Morris; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas, brother Raymond Storck, son-in-law John Kilanowski, grandson Nicholas Swanson, and her parents Anthony and Thelma Storck.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Courage Cottage in Morris or a charity of choice.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in care of arrangements for Edell.
