Marjorie Trost Speer of Morris, MN, passed away at the Courage Cottage in Morris on September 19, 2017.

Marjorie Trost Speer was born July 27, 1925 to Jay and Vera (Nelson) Watson in Artichoke Township of Big Stone County, MN. Marjorie attended country school, Ortonville School, and later, graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN in 1943. She then obtained her LPN Degree and was employed at both the old and the new Morris Hospitals. On June 27, 1949, she married Harold Trost. They made their home in Donnelly, MN, where Harold was the rural mail carrier. It was in Donnelly that they raised their three children, Rebecca (Charles) Hennen, Morris, MN; Thomas (Marcella) Trost, Couderay, WI; and Jean Trost (Eric Tosch), Duvall, WA. Harold passed away on October 7, 1982. In August of 1985, Marjorie married Robert Speer. Bob's sons, Brian and David Speer, were also added to the family. Robert passed away on November 19, 2009.

Marj grew up as a tomboy alongside of her three brothers. She was the on-call nurse in Donnelly, where she delivered a baby in a blizzard. She was always a compassionate caretaker of many of her loved ones, family and friends. She especially enjoyed keeping up with the many activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching them grow up. She loved nature, clouds, trees, and birds, especially the pelicans. Marj especially loved a good, rip roaring thunderstorm. She was still planting trees at 91. She was a voracious reader, often reading 5-6 books a week. Marj hand stitched many beautiful quilts and she enjoyed Tole painting. She loved politics and staying informed on current events. She was a strong advocate for women's rights and social justice issues. Marj was currently a resident of Sky View Court, Morris, MN.

Marjorie is survived by her children; her step-son, Brian Speer, Helena, MT; her grandchildren, Mathew (Devon) Trost, Keegan and Phoenyx; Daniel (Melissa) Trost, Embrie; Marisa Trost (fiance Todd Romanowski); Rachel (Jacob) Banta, Brooke, and Sophia; Elizabeth (Brandon) Huberty; Brandon, Caitlin and Dylan Lawyer; and Eric Speer and Cole (Kasia) Speer. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Craig, Roger, and Wallace Watson; and step-son, David Speer.

At Marjorie's request, there will only be a private graveside service which will be held at a later date at Vinger Cemetery, rural Donnelly, MN. Arrangements were through the Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory of Alexandria, MN.
