George Hulzebos, 92 of Hoffman died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Stevens Homes Plus of rural Barrett. A Memorial Service will held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hoffman with Reverend Dennis Preston officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment at Land Cemetery, Hoffman.
George Hulzebos was born on August 6, 1924, the son of Albert and Annie (Kruize) Hulzebos. He attended school through the eighth grade.
On December 4, 1945, George was united in marriage to Dorothy DeWitte in Jasper, Minnesota. He worked on the family farm by Lismore until 1946, and then George and Dorothy moved to a farm by Adrian, and in 1958, they moved to their farm by Hoffman. In 1990, they retired to their home in the city of Hoffman and wintered in Arizona for twenty-eight years. In addition to farming he was a carpenter building homes for thirty years.
George served on Lands Church Council, was a Luther League Advisor and served on the ASCS committee. He enjoyed reading, political discussions and playing pool. George and Dorothy made Fatchuten (a Dutch treat rolled in sugar) every New Year's Eve.
He is survived by four children, Doris (Dan) Bertram of Richmond, Robert (Diane) of Rosemont, Jerald (Carol) of Hoffman and Gary (Kathy) of Hoffman; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Susan Hulzebos of Buffalo, Mn., Jackie Duffy of Sioux Falls, SD. and Peg (Craig) Ellman of Salem, SD; and by numerous relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Annie Hulzebos; wife, Dorothy on October 29, 2016; daughter, Cheryl; brother, Pete Hulzebos; sister, Mary Ann Hulzebos; brothers-in-law, David DeWitte, Richard DeWitte, Dale DeWitte and Francis Duffy; and sisters-in-law, Doris DeWitte and Joey DeWitte.
