Hill District 7 Fair Person of the Year
Mary Hill from the Stevens County Fair Board received the 2018 Fair Person of the Year Award for District 7 at the Minnesota Federation of County Fairs Convention.
Hill, of Chokio, was unable to attend the convention in January and received the award at our April Stevens County Fair Board meeting.
The nomination for Hill was submitted by the fair board.
Here is some of what the nomination said:. "County fair secretaries have many hats, but Mary wears them all and then some—sometimes they even have a Viking on them! Miss Hill has been with the fair since 2003 and 2018 will be her 18th year as our secretary.
When a person in Stevens County thinks of the fair board, a few names come to mind—Mary is always one of them. With a smiley face and a "go getter" attitude, she has made sure to assist fair board members, fair goers, and vendors in any way she can. Often there as the summer sun rises and long after it has set, Mary still sees the absolute beauty in every aspect of the fair—except maybe cleaning bathrooms!"
The nomination also cited Hill's work on a new entry system in the open class and homemakers entry categories. Hill is also an important part of staying connected with fair sponsors, the nomination said.
Hill also works on contracts with fair vendors.
Hill has also been a mentor to younger fair participants and actively supports the county fair but those in the surrounding area, the nomination said.
